Trumen Seahaven: A New Dimension in Entertainment Space Design

Yuchi Zhang's Award-Winning Design Combines Art, Innovation, and Mystery

Trumen Seahaven, an innovative entertainment space designed by Yuchi Zhang, offers a unique blend of art, architecture, and mystery. This article delves into the inspiration, unique properties, and technical aspects of this award-winning design.

Yuchi Zhang drew inspiration from the Mobius Band for the design of Trumen Seahaven. The space is composed of three cuboids, extending and rotating to mimic the twist of the Mobius Band. This design element serves as a metaphor for the complexity, uncertainty, and impermanence of puzzles, perfectly embodying the essence of the entertainment venue. The space is further enhanced with transparent tables and chairs, adding a surreal atmosphere.

What sets Trumen Seahaven apart is its embodiment of the concept of reasoning and solving riddles. From the entrance, the collage of simple square elements creates a layered effect, presenting a set of puzzles for the visitors to solve. The rough walls and modern feel of the space contribute to the atmosphere of intense reasoning, akin to a game hall.

The design was realized using cost-effective materials. The ground is paved with gray terrazzo, the walls are decorated with cement, and the ceiling is simply painted with emulsion paint. This creates a contrast between matte and high gloss surfaces. The project covers a total of 360 square meters, spread over three floors. The first and third floors are game rooms, while the second floor offers a direct view of the street.

Yuchi Zhang's design team included Beryl Lee. The team ensured that all junctions in the design were sewn without glue or mending, reflecting a primitive feeling that symbolizes the pure fun of brain-burning puzzles. The project started in July 2019 in Kunming and was completed in October of the same year.

The design faced several challenges, particularly in creating a suspenseful atmosphere. The stairway connecting the three floors is crisscrossed with stainless steel strips, scattering jagged reflections like stars. The stair steps are made of glass, with an orange film of light belt in the middle interlayer. This layout emphasizes the change of lightness on the unified gray tone, making the visual effect progressive layer by layer, in line with the atmosphere of a reasoning game.

The Trumen Seahaven project was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The copyrights for the design belong to Yuchi Zhang.
